Once awake (at the proper time!) those of us who had signed on for an excursion to see the Geiranger fjord, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, were organized into three buses, one for French speakers, one for German speakers and one for Norwegian and English speakers. Although I don't speak or understand Norwegian, I was especially pleased to be on that particular bus! Our ship dropped all of us off at the hamlet of Geiranger and we boarded our buses for the drive up, up, up the mountain until we had lovely views of the fjord and surrounding mountains. We watched the Nordlys sail away, admittedly with a smidgen of angst about whether we'd ever see it again! We were to re-board the ship in the thriving metropolis of Mølde. This is the link, courtesy of tinyurl.com - http://tinyurl.com/36wp9et - for the map of where we were. Pay particular attention to the ROAD on which we drove as we departed the town of Geiranger. The next post will, I hope, better describe our amazing/thrilling/scary/gorgeous drive down the mountain on this road! If the link doesn't work, google "Geiranger, Norway" and it'll show up as the map at the top of the page. It was impressive, to say the least!
